1940 Ford Deluxe

Since its early days, Ford has long been an automobile company with the ability to somehow withstand difficult tests from difficult economies to wavering public opinion and even two world wars. Just before the United States entered into World War II following the horrific attack on Pearl Harbor, Ford produced a model which had a cool, sleek look. The 1940 Ford Deluxe was a vehicle whose appearance made it seem as though things were not as dire as was reality: the world had plunged into economic turmoil and many countries were in chaos. Below, we examine this classic car; take a look.

Though Henry Ford was never a fan of change, the 1939 model year saw new hydraulic brakes, and they would remain in use for the 1940 model. Different headlights and a new grille also differentiated this model from previous years. Its 135 cubic inch engine produced 60 horsepower at 3500 rpm. For a little more power, the V8 engine produced 95 horsepower at 4200 rpm. Ford produced nearly 24,000 units of the 1940 Ford Deluxe convertible coupe, which is among the most popular cars to make into a great hot rod.

Between upgrading the engine and adding a new paint job, this model has a lot of potential for classic hot rod fans. The Ford Deluxe was a stark contrast to the war years that would soon follow for the United States. Have you made a hot rod out of a 1940 Ford Deluxe or the Ford Deluxe convertible coupe? Why do you think it is so popular among classic car fans? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section below!
