1959 Chevrolet Corvette

Always near the top of the list of favorite cars for car collectors and restorers, the Chevrolet Corvette is legendary in its love affair with American motor history. The Chevrolet division of General Motors introduced the first Corvette late into the 1953 model year. A few years later, the model was on the fast track for success. By the time the 1959 Chevrolet Corvette came around, the car was nearing the end of its first generation, which ran from 1953 to 1962.

The 1959 Chevrolet Corvette saw few changes from the 1958 model year, and like many others, it was produced in St. Louis, Missouri. Seven exterior colors and four interior color options gave the car a little kick and added to the appeal with its bright colors. With a wheelbase measuring 102 inches, this car had a 16.4 gallon fuel capacity. The base engine for this beauty was a 283 cubic inch engine which produced 230 horsepower. Of course, as with any popular muscle car, upgrades were always available. One engine option, the 579 D could put out 290 horsepower, which was a significant jump from the base option to be sure.

Though Chevrolet has made many changes to the Corvette since 1959, this is a car which will always impress, like its predecessors and successors. Classic car shows across the United States are proud to show off Corvette models of old just as much as they marvel at the feats of today’s models. Few things are quite as relaxing as riding down an open road with the top down of a great classic car that offers power, great looks, and envious looks from onlookers of all ages.
