Cars in The Godfather

There are a few movies that continue have a cult following: Star Wars, Harry Potter, and The Godfather. Since this is a blog about cars, you can safely figure out that this blog will be about The Godfather. Not the people. Or the plot. Or the fans. But, the cars. The beautiful cars that made their way into this life-changing three-part film. These are a few of the best:

Alfa Romeo 6C 2500: This beauty was made between 1946 and 1952 and featured only right-hand drive. The particular Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 that was used was a post-war car called the “Freccia d’Oro” and had a rounded rear that was shorter than previous models to add to the aerodynamics. This Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 was used in a scene where Michael Corleone was visiting Sicily.

Lasalle Ambulance: This beautiful ambulance was designed and built by A.J. Miller in Ohio and in the movie the 1937 Lasalle Miller Ambulance carried Vito Corleone into his house. The ambulance is memorable for the visually clean scenes in which it was featured and for the amazing design of the vehicle itself.

Mercury Montclair: When Michael Corleone visited Cuba in The Godfather 2, he drove through the streets in this striking green 1957 Mercury Montclair. The car screams 1957, with is powerful bulk and meaty grill.

Fiat 503: No film set in Italy would be complete without a Fiat. In the Godfather 2, the Fiat 503 takes center stage as Vito Corleone walks beside the car before murdering Don Ciccio. There is a special contrast between old style Fiat and the flashy suit of Vito Corleone.

Maserati Quattroporte: As the Corleones grow up and become more powerful, so do their cars as evidenced by the 1980 Maserati Quattroporte that Michael Corleone drives in The Godfather 3. It is a fitting car for a man like Michael Corleone.

Lancia Gamma: This is another “grown-up” car that Michael Corleone finds himself in in The Godfather 3. This rare car makes its way into a scene in the film when Michael Corleone is in disguise. The 1982 Lancia Gamma takes him into the center of town with the help of Kay.
