How to Shoot the Best Hot Rod Photos

'68 Chevy NovaWhether your hot rod is a 1941 Chevy Special Deluxe or a 1951 Chevy Styleline, you know the value of a stylish photograph. After you have spent thousands of dollars on restoring your classic car, you should learn how to make your car look you spent thousands of dollars on it. There are several mistakes that amateur photographers make when shooting their cars. To make your Chevy Special Deluxe look like a deluxe car, follow these tips:

1. Shoot the car on pavement. Cars belong on the road. So pick a maintained road or parking lot. New pavement looks great under a buffed and waxed vintage car. Try to pick pavement in a color that shows of your car, so lighter pavement with a darker car and vice versa with a light-colored car.

3. Be aware of your surroundings. When you shoot your car, look at the background. Just like you never want tree branches and light poles coming out of human heads, you do not want random strange things coming out of your car, too. Pay close attention to what is behind your car so that you do not lose the lines of the car. Big parking lots without buildings in the background look like more professional backgrounds than residential streets or driveways.

5. Play with angles. Try a shot from a ladder or from lying on the ground. If you are creative, you will get interesting shots that might get your car noticed and recognized. Look through car magazines and think about where the camera has to be to shoot the car.
