Unfortunately Named Cars

As a car fan, I enjoy learning about the significance of the names that cars are given. Many names have interesting etymologies. From the Corvette being named after swiftly moving Navy ships to the Shelby Cobra being named after a dangerous snake, many car makers get the names just right. Then there are cars like the Plymouth Duster, Ford Probe, and the Chevy Nova. These cars have names that are easy to spell, easy to say, but they have no sense of coolness at all.

The Fastest Muscle Car of All Time

1966 Shelby Cobra 427There is one muscle car out there that has screamed down a drag strip, zipped around a race track and has had the checkered flag in front of them and a plethora of cars in its rear-view mirror.  This is the car that has been named the Fastest Muscle Car of All Time.   Some may think it’s the Mustang, others may argue that it’s a Camaro, and others may argue that it’s a Corvette, but they are all wrong.  The fastest car of all time is the Shelby Cobra 427.

1970 Torino CobraThe 1970 Torino Cobra was one of Ford’s most powerful muscle cars. Originating in 1968 as a part of the Fairlane line, the Torino came into its own in 1970. Most of the Torinos made from 1968 to 1976 were just conventional, intermediate-sized cars, available as wagons, sedans, two-doors, fastbacks, and convertibles. However, models carrying Ford’s Cobra Jet engine are considered to be true muscle cars. Torinos also have the distinction of being the base for Ford NASCAR entrants.

Shelby CobraShelby Cobra: Carroll Shelby, the creator and genius behind the 1964 Shelby Cobra and its offspring, won the LeMans 24 hour race in 1959 and was then forced to quit racing due to health problems. Instead of giving up the life of cars he loved, he turned to design. The Shelby Cobras are cars of legend and are officially known as AC Cobras. These are stylish and extremely fast classic cars that enthusiasts loved back in the ‘60s and still get excited about today.
