What’s a Chevy Nova Worth Today? $250,000? $30 Million?

1968 Chevrolet NovaWhile it may not seem out of the ordinary to spend over $20,000 for a finely restored Chevy Nova, spending six figure or millions on one does seem a bit excessive. The Chevy Nova is not a hard-to-find rarity, like an early 1953 Chevy Corvette or a 1955 Gullwing Mercedes, so it comes as a surprise to many Nova fans and car aficionados that two cars would be so highly priced.

1968 Chevy NovaThe two most expensive Chevy Novas are memorial cars, one for 9/11 and the other for racecar driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr. The $250,000 is the asking price for the 1977 Chevy Nova that Earnhardt drove in Nascar races in the 1980s. “The Intimidator” drove this car to a series of wins at popular tracks like Daytona and Rockingham along with Charlotte and Caraway in the early 1980s. When he won these Grand National series races, the Nova wore a Pontiac Ventura name badge.

In order to make the Ventura into a Nova, his crew chopped off the nose, changed a few other parts, and then named it a Nova for the 1986-racing season. Earnhardt was not the only driver to do this to a stock car, and the chopped-nose Nova was a better car for drafting during races. The Number 8 car was decked out in GM Goodwrench colors.

1972 Chevy NovaThe other highly priced Nova is the 1975 Chevy Nova painted to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks in New York City. While any famous Nascar drivers never drove this Nova, it has a superb airbrushed paint job. The car has traveled all over the United States and wears signatures from celebrities and politicians. The car was listed for sale on Hemmings for $30 million, though many say the car is not worth any more than $10,000.
