For any true car lover, a car show is the best way to spend a Saturday, an evening, a day off from work, or really any free time at all. Whether you like the oldest antiques, American muscle cars, one particular model, or you love all kinds of classic cars, car shows are a great way to enjoy these historic automotive gems.
Traditional classic car shows are the most common of these kinds of events you will run into. They can range from casual, small town affairs with fewer than 100 cars on display to large, annual events that bring in thousands of cars and even more spectators. The idea is to park your classic car, hang out, chat with people, and let the crowds admire the car you have put so much work into. If you have yet to own a collectible, these shows are great for simply enjoying the outdoors and the fine cars on display.
Another fun type of car show is the classic cruise. These are car shows on the move and can be a spontaneous and informal gathering of a few friends, or a huge, planned and sponsored event. The famous Woodward Dream Cruise is a good example of the latter. Over a million people are drawn to this historic road on one day each summer to watch people cruise up and down the boulevard in their restored and customized creations.
For the wealthier set, car shows called Concours d’Elegance are the place to be. These are high-end, juried car shows with only the finest and rarest specimens on display. The most famous is the Pebble Beach event at which the best cars in the country are examined, judged, and given distinguished awards. For just a couple hundred dollars, you can attend the event and watch the proceedings.
Whatever your preference is in classic cars, there is a show for you. Many are devoted to classics of all types, but some car shows are dedicated solely to one model, one decade, or one type of car. Find a classic car show for your next weekend activity and you will not regret it.
