The company dates back to before the turn of the 20th century when it was called the Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company; in 1903 it became the Buick Motor Company and of course the man behind the original vision was founder David Dunbar Buick.
It is probably safe to say that Mr. Buick would have thought you were crazy if you told him that his surname would be emblazoned on modern automobiles that would’ve blown his mind into the 21st century but that is what we mean by staying power.
First Generation Buick Electra 225
Back in the heyday of the American automobile industry gasoline was cheap so vehicles could be built without regard to gas mileage, and some big “boats” were the result. These cars are really cool today and there were various entries into this market, such as the Cadillac, the Lincoln Continental, and the Oldsmobile 98. The big top-end Buick was the Electra 225.

If you’re an old-school fan of true American classic cars you are well aware of the impact that Buick has had on the automotive industry over the years. And speaking of old-school, the Buick brand has been around longer than any other American nameplate and it is one of the longest standing automobile manufacturers in the world.
The company dates all the way back to 1899 when it was founded by David Dunbar Buick, a Scotsman, and called the Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company. A few years later it became the Buick Motor Company, but David Dunbar Buick couldn’t hold the reins and the company was acquired by James Whiting.
