Fastest American Production Cars
When most people think of the fastest cars, they usually look to European sports cars. The Ferrari, Bugatti, Lamborghini, and Porsche sports cars have continually impressed car enthusiasts who look for as much speed as possible. American fast-car enthusiasts are not limited to the automakers in Italy, Germany, and the UK, because there are several extremely fast cars that are manufactured in the United States. These are some of the fastest:
Ariel Atom 500. This little car that many have never heard of is the fastest car produced in the US. The company that designs the car, Ariel Motor Company, is located in the UK, but the car is actually manufactured in Virginia. The car has a roofless and window-less exoskeleton rather than body panels, which makes it more aerodynamic than cars with body panels. It is an inexpensive speed machine, priced under $50,000. The car goes from 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds.
SSE Ultima Aero TT. The SSC (Shelby SuperCars) Ultima Aero TT is fast. For under $440,000, you can get a lightning fast Ultima Aero loaded with scissor doors, a DVD player, navigation system, back-up camera, 10 speakers-audio system, and more. Despite being filled with convenience features, the Shelby crew made sure this was one fast car and its 0 to 60 speed of 2.78 seconds proves that the Shelbys did their job.
Chevy Corvette VR-1. This is one fast and sexy car. The Corvette VR-1 is proudly made in Bowling Green, Kentucky right by the Corvette museum where there is sure to be a model of this fine auto. The car has 638 horsepower from its supercharged V8 engine that can bring the car from 0 to 60 in 3.3 seconds.
Ford GT. Just as fast as the Corvette, but not as easy to find, the Ford GT is another production car with real speed. This car, too, made the 0 to 60 track in 3.3 seconds. While the Corvette is still being produced, the Ford GT only was made for two years, 2005 and 2006, in Detroit, Michigan.
