Modern Cars that Live up to the Classics
One of the best things about collecting and enjoying classic cars is nostalgia. Every collector has his or her favorite car that usually takes them back to an earlier time. But what about the cars being made today? Do any of them have the potential to become as legendary as the classics we love now? Car expert and editor at Edmunds.com, Mike McGrath, thinks so. Along with the Boston Herald, he has come up with a list of the modern cars that live up to their legendary predecessors and have the potential to become classics in their own right.
McGrath likes the latest Mustang, the 2014 model, for its power and its retro appearance. The newest model from Ford comes with a V8 engine that puts out over 400 horsepower and a body that harkens back to the originals of the 1960s. For the first time since 1976, the Corvette will wear the Stingray badge on its 2014 model. The performance and styling of Chevy’s newest sports car are better than ever, according to experts.
Foreign cars are making waves too. The Porsche 911, thanks to years of evolution in its design, is better than it ever has been and lives up to its racing tradition. The Volkswagen Beetle, redesigned for the modern era, takes classic design elements from the past to create a fun and cool new car. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, with its history of technological innovations, continues that trend in its most recent model.
Since 1948, Ford’s F-Series trucks have been popular, and most of the time, the best seller in the segment. The latest F-150 does not disappoint fans of the brand. Finally, although it hit some rough patches over the years since its debut in 1955, the Chrysler 300 has helped pull the car company out of a major slump in recent years. Today, the 300 sits comfortable among these other important, modern classics.
