There are car shows and then there are Car Shows. When you spend big bucks finding your favorite classic car and weeks working on restoration projects, you want to show your pride and joy to the people who will appreciate it the most.
Whether you drive a lowrider Chevy Fleetline or a hot rod Chevy Chevelle with flames on the side panels, you will certainly be noticed at the annual Dream Cruise in Detroit, Michigan – the home of the automobile. The Woodward Dream Cruise, which takes place annually in August, is one of the premier car events in the world. Over one million visitors line the streets to see over 40,000 classic cars cruise the street just like in the good ol’ days.
The National Street Rod Association has events scheduled all over the country each year. You can take your Chevy Fleetline, Ford Fairlane, or Plymouth ‘Cuda to a local event or you can visit the granddaddy of all Street Rod National Shows in Louisville, Kentucky. These shows draw in thousands of cars and you have to register your car in advance. This event occurs in the end of July or beginning of August each year. You never know what you will see when you visit a NSRA event, but you can guarantee you will see some beauties!
If you are up for a visit to Charlotte, North Carolina, the Charlotte Auto Fair proves to be an annual hit with classic car fans looking to show off their cars and add to their collections. This early-April event fills the Charlotte Motor Speedway with car clubs, vendors, and cars for sale. It is one of the largest auto fairs in the world.
For over 60 years, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has been held the spotlight for the most glamorous retro automobiles. This car shows is held at the Pebble Beach Golf Links. While it is not the most popular car show, with fewer than 20,000 spectators each year, its claim-to-fame is the price of the cars in the shows. The finest automobiles are delivered from all over the world for the swanky competition in August.
