The Plymouth Roadrunner came out in 1968 and was the Chrysler division’s entry into the muscle car segment. Plymouth already had the GTX for a performance car, but the designers wanted to go back to the low-cost, minimalist roots of the muscle car, which they did successfully with the Roadrunner. It was inexpensive, powerful, fast, and it far overshadowed the GTX. With its characteristic cartoon logo and horn, the Roadrunner remains one of the most popular of all of the legendary American muscle cars.
