TOPIC: Chrysler Designer Virgil Exner

Chrysler Designer Virgil Exner 7 years, 1 month ago #1

Virgil Exner was a car designer who worked for Chrysler and it was he that designed the first 'Fin' cars. He was given a free hand, something apparently few designers can get, to design the1957 line. I've discovered that he even win tested his designs to improve the performance of the 'fins'. He helped to create true 'classic' American cars, that I still love today.

Thanks for posting this tread. I wonder if outside of our hobby, people will ever acknowledge that so many of these "classic", "antique" etc cars are true art! I wonder if we will ever have these kinds of guys again. Those to whom car design is an 'Art'! I will look up this gentleman and see if I can find some of his car designs.

Exner also worked for Studebaker, after starting his career at General Motors designing Pontiac models. He was a genius, might I add, he designed some great looking cars!
