TOPIC: Friend's First Restoration

Friend's First Restoration 7 years, 6 months ago #1

So a friend of mine has been saving all his spare money for several years and finally bought a classic car to restore. This will be his first restoration project, and mine too, since he's asked me to help him. The car is not in running condition, but the car was kept in a garage so the body is still in fairly good condition. It will need to be repainted, but it has no rust damage or major dents.

Since this will be a first for both of us, do any of you experienced restorers have advice on how/where to start?

Congratulations on your first restoration! In my opinion, you should start with the engine first. Get it in running condition and then worry about repainting and/or refinishing the inside/out.

The motor is the best place to start. Get it running first, and then the cosmetic stuff can be done later. Take it apart, and put it back together piece by piece, as time and money allows.
