Ferrari
Originally a manufacturer of racecars, Ferrari began producing street-legal vehicles in 1947, and has since become known as one of the world’s premier manufacturers of sports cars. Ferrari is well known for its efforts in the supercar market, where it has produced numerous supercars that combine speed, handling, luxury, and elegance into an expensive and alluring street-legal package.
Ferrari was founded in 1929 by Enzo Ferrari as a sponsor for amateur racing drivers. In 1938, he was became the head of the Alfa Romeo racing department due his drivers’ successful racing efforts. Benito Mussolini’s fascist government confiscated Alfa Romeo in 1941, yet Enzo Ferrari was able to maintain his small racing division. This small company would eventually become the Ferrari brand that is known and loved today.
Ferrari has achieved numerous victories in the motorsport industry, and is the only team to have competed in the Formula One World Championships throughout the sport’s 60-year history. Its first sports car was the 125 S, followed by the 166 Inter and its first mid-engined car, the Dino. The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO is considered by many to be the first Ferrari supercar. Since then, the company has produced numerous supercars including the Enzo Ferrari and the FXX, as well as a variety of concept cars such as the P4.
