The Ford Motor Company was founded by Henry Ford on June 16, 1903 in Dearborn Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. Today, Ford is widely recognized for its longevity, commitment to quality, and as one of the greatest names in American automobile history. Ford created the first mass-produced automobile, the Ford Model T, in 1908. The Model T and its accompanying business model helped to reshape American industry and redefine production and manufacturing, arguably ushering in the 20th century.
Henry Ford’s first automobile company, the Henry Ford Company, was launched in 1901, but was unsuccessful. Under the control of his financial backers, his plant and assets became the Cadillac Motor Company on August 22, 1902. Ford was far from finished with the automobile industry, however. In 1903 Henry Ford launched The Ford Motor Company, which would go on to become one of the world’s largest and most profitable companies. It has produced numerous award-winning models, such as the Mustang, F-150, and Thunderbird.
The Ford Motor Company remains to this day as a family controlled business. It owns numerous automobile-manufacturing brands, including Lincoln and Mercury. Ford automobiles have also achieved numerous victories in the motorsports arena, including eight manufacturer’s championships in the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
