Lamborghini

Founded in 1963 by Ferrucio Lamborghini, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. is recognized for its exotic sports car designs that have constantly pushed the envelope in terms of performance and style.  The company was founded with the goal of competing directly with Ferarri S.p.A. by offering a high-quality grand touring automobile.  Today, the company stands as a symbol of wealth and power that is renowned for its innovative, sleek designs.

In 1964, Lamborghini released its first production line automobile, the 350GT, which was based in concept on the 350 GTV prototype.  It sold a total of 120 copies, and featured a V12 engine designed by ex-Ferarri engineer Giotto Bizzarrini.  In the following year, Lamborghini released an updated version of the Bizarrini V12 housed within the 350 GT chassis, which became known as the Interim 400 GT.  The 400 GT was released with great success in 1966 as a roomier version of the interim 400 GT.  1969, Lamborghini released the Espada, which was an instant success with sales over 1,200 units during the next ten years.

In 1974, Lamborghini released the V12 Countach, which would become the most popular and successful vehicle in company history.  Its successor, the Diablo, was released in 1990 as the fastest car in production.  The 2009 lineup of Lamborghinis consists entirely of mid-engined two-seater sports cars, including the V10 Spyder and V12 LP640 Roadster.  Today, Lamborghini sits as one of the world’s premier manufacturers of exotic supercars.
