Chevy Nova: The Amazing Cartoon Car
Some cars make statements in live action movies, while some tend to appear in music videos. For some strange reason, the Chevy Nova has made several appearances in cartoons. The muscle car models from the late 1960s and early 1970s translate well into a tough cartoon car due to the oversized headlights, grille, and angled rooflines.
One of the toughest looking cartoon Chevy Nova models appeared in an episode of Transformers Prime. The jet black car had sleek chrome details and held its own in a street race in the first season of the hit show.
The popular cartoon, King of the Hill, also featured Chevy Novas in a pair of episodes. The first time a Nova was featured was in the second season in an episode called “Life in the Fast Lane – Bobby’s Saga”, where Bobby gets a job working at a race track. During this episode, Boomhauer races his Dodge Coronet against a Chevy Nova, which ends up belonging to a police officer bringing trouble to the group. The second time that a Nova appeared in the show was in the fourth season in an episode called “Hillennium” where Hank Hill was worried that the new millennium would create a shortage of propane.
Another Chevy Nova shows up in The Regular Show. In season three, episode twenty-one called “Under the Hood” the bad guy graffiti monsters drive a tough black Chevy Nova around town. The graffiti monsters are so tough; they have a pair of tiny skulls hanging from their rearview mirror.
Batman: Gotham Knight, the movie from 2008, featured another animated Nova. This car played a cameo role as it drove down the street only to be stopped by a bad guy in the middle of the road. Like the other cartoons, the muscle car model was the one that was chosen.
And, finally, the Chevy Nova had to make an appearance in The Simpsons. It appeared in the ninth season, in the first episode in a cameo role in “The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson.” In this classic episode, Barney takes Homer’s car and leaves it in New York City. When Homer goes to find it, hilarity ensues as Homer runs into falafel salesmen, pimps running down the street, and boots locking his car in place. A Nova is seen driving down a not-so-busy New York street.
