It was not convenient. Needless-to-say, the radio did not take off. But, by the mid 1940s, there were over 9 million cars with radios. “I’m gonna tell you son, you’re gonna to drive me to drinkin’ if you don’t stop drivin’ that hot rod Lincoln.”

If you came of age during the 1970s you probably heard the above lyrics that are a part of a song called “Hot Rod Lincoln” blaring through your speakers after you popped in the eight track tape.

The version that most people would be aware of was recorded by Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen in 1972. The song was actually quite a big hit and climbed all the way up to number eight on the Billboard charts at the time.
