The Yenko Camaro
The Camaro has long been associated with speed, power, and respect on the road, however, there was a time when it simply could not compete with the Ford Mustang and Plymouth Barracuda. At the time that the Camaro was first produced, General Motors had a limit which prevented using an engine larger than a 400 cubic inch V8, much unlike its competition, which had no such restriction. Things changed under Don Yenko, who understood that there was a market for more powerful cars, and so began the story of the Yenko Camero, a modified version of the famous car line, produced under Yenko Chevrolet.
Cars and Songs
There is no doubt that music and automobiles have a place together in history. For many people, there is nothing quite like cruising around town with the radio blasting. The love affair with cars and music inspired songwriters to craft memorable pieces all about their favorite cars, like the Lincoln Zephyr, the Mercedes Benz, and the Chevy Corvette. Here are a few cars that appeared in song lyrics by artists from a variety of different music genres:
Dropping the Ford Mustang for the Ford Probe: Say It Isn’t So!
The late 1970s were not good for the auto industry. As gas became more expensive and fuel needed to be rationed, automakers had to make major changes. One car that had serious trouble in the 1970s was the Ford Mustang. Many manufacturers had to turn their hotrods into front wheel drive gas sippers, and Ford turned to the unfortunate Mustang II. But, for fans of the Ford Mustang, the worst was still on its way.
Stephen King Loves Classic Cars
I am huge fan of Stephen King, the man and his books. While I don’t consider myself to be a horror book connoisseur, I am a fan of a well-written book set in the real world (or at least a realistic world). I am also a fan of novelists who are not afraid to show the world what they love. It is obvious that Stephen King has a love of classic cars, because he includes them frequently in his best books.
Entertainment and the Dodge Coronet
The Dodge Coronet is car model that started as a high-end car in the early 1950s, but dropped to the low-end car in the late 1950s. Eventually the car became a hot rod and then turned into a mid-size sedan and station wagon in the 1970s. It is true that the car is not as memorable as the Chevy Belair, Ford Mustang, or Mercedes Gullwing, but it did appear in many popular television shows.
Pontiac Trans AM – Muscle Cars Make the Movies
Most movies are loved for two reasons: actors who put their all into their roles and stories that plunge into our souls while thoroughly stirring our emotions. Every now and then, there are movies that captivate us for other reasons, like high tech special effects and mind blowing comedic timing. However, there are those occasional movies that suck us in, not for the story or the actors, special effects or comedy, but because they have supremely cool cars.
Among the many celebrated muscle cars, and indeed cars in general, in American car history is the Ford Mustang. Classified as a pony car, this is a car which has enchanted generations of car lovers and even casual car enthusiasts, and has epitomized American automotive pride. Today, the Mustang remains a symbol of power and respect on the road, and still, millions of people around the world appreciate this head-turner. With the first generation Mustang (1964-1973) came the beginning of the muscle car era, and indeed, it signified the beginning of the American love affair with fast cars. Though Ford’s competitors also began to produce their own muscle cars, many did not stand the test of time like the Mustang.
