Hassanal Bolkiah, otherwise known as the Sultan of Brunei, has many great accomplishments under his belt. He was knighted by the Queen of England, has various honorary degrees including a Doctor of Law from Oxford, and has even been declared an Honorary Admiral of the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom. Despite all these prestigious feathers in his cap, one of the things he is best known for is his extensive and extravagant car collection. Many would say it is the finest car collection in the world, and we are going to take a look at some of the best of the best that his garage has to offer.
Of the five Porsche Dauer 962 Le Mans’ that the sultan reportedly once owned only the Sultan’s favorite yellow stunner still remains. The 962 Le Mans is a rare road car version of their 962 race car, and although labeled a street car, would still be right at home on the race track. In fact, it was considered in its time to be one of, if not the fastest road car in the world.
The Sultan’s Ferrari 456s are some of the finest Ferraris to be released in some time, and the Sultan commissioned himself special four-door sedan and wagon models of this already excellent car. Not only did he personally hire Italian coach-builder Pininfarina to build these cars, but he even had them do the work on the royal premises. It could literally be said that his Ferrari 456s were “built for a king.”
Bolkiah’s Ferrari 456s are not the only cars he had specially designed; wanting a high-end luxury SUV that did not exist at the time, he hired Bentley to build his Bentley Dominator. Built on a Bentley chassis, with Range Rover four-wheel drive mechanisms, the Dominator is a unique luxury SUV made before the days of the Cadillac Escalade and other similar SUVS of today.
