Jaguar designed and built its XKSS as the road-ready version of its D-Type race car. The D-Type was made from 1954 to 1957, but in 1956 Jaguar retired its factory racing team. The remaining D-Types were converted to the Jaguar XKSS by including a passenger seat and door, side windows, bumpers, and a fully-trimmed interior. Jaguar intended to create 25 of their XKSS models, but a fire destroyed nine of those. With only 16 in existence, one of which was owned by Steve McQueen, the Jaguar XKSS is a rare collectible today.
