Essentially a rebadged Ford Escort, the Mercury Lynx stayed in production from 1981 to 1987 and at one point was the best-selling model Mercury had in its lineup. The Mercury Lynx came in three- and five-door hatchback and four-door station wagon versions and was a steady compact car for the division. Sales slowed down in by 1987s and the Lynx was out, to be replaced by the Tracer which shared nothing with its predecessor.
