Volkswagen manufactured two generations of its Type 4, which was a mid-sized passenger car, from 1968 to 1974. The second version, made from 1972 to 1974, was called the 412. The Type 4 cars were the largest cars for Volkswagen at the time, although for American standards they were quite small. The 412 also used the company’s largest engine to power it. Available as two- and four-door sedans, and as a three-door wagon, the 412 was a popular model in Europe. Today, you can track down the 412 as an unusual collectible.
