Volkswagen introduced its full-sized luxury sedan, named the Phaeton, to the world at the Geneva Motor Show in 2002. Since then production has not halted on the brand’s premium car. The Phaeton was designed to be competitive with the cars coming from the higher end German manufacturers like Mercedes Benz and BMW. It took time for buyers to recognize that luxury could come from Volkswagen and initial Phaeton sales disappointed. Now, the car is a success and there is even talk of bringing it to the U.S. market.
