The second generation of the Passat sold in the North American market as the Volkswagen Quantum. It succeeded the first generation, badged the Dasher in the U.S. American fans of the Volkswagen brand could get the Quantum from 1982 to 1988 as a three-door coupe, a five-door station wagon, or a four-door sedan. Unfortunately for the German car maker, the U.S. market did not get excited about the Quantum and sales were never very impressive.
