The sporty subcompact Volkswagen Scirocco is in its third generation today, but first came out in 1974. The Scirocco went on a hiatus for much of the 1990s and early 2000s, to return in 2008. The first Scirocco used the Golf platform, but all the parts underwent engineering changes to create a much sportier vehicle. The three-door coupe included several engine options, up to a 1.7-liter inline four. The latest incarnation of the Volkswagen Scirocco is not being sold in the North American market.
