TOPIC: Volkswagon Beetle

Volkswagon Beetle 8 years, 4 months ago #1

This is my first restoration project, a classic VW Beetle for my daughter. The problem is, she's just now learning to drive and can't drive a manual transmission vehicle. (My fault for not having a stick-shift to teach her with.) So I've been considering replacing the existing transmission for an automatic transmission instead. How feasible is this? I've worked on vehicles before, and I've replaced transmissions before, but I've never replaced a manual transmission with an automatic or vice-versa.

What do I need to do in order to replace the existing manual transmission with an automatic transmission instead?

I would make sure she knew what she was doing first. You are probably going to spend more money on repairs on the VW, since it is an older model.

Isn't it easier to teach your daughter how to drive a stick? I learned when I was about 20, I didn't reaceive a car as a gift but I had the opportunity to learn and I'm glad I did.
