 Vehicle Description
The Mustang remains one of the most popular cars of all time, but that also means that finding one that hasnt been modified or customized is getting harder every day. So imagine our surprise when this tidy red coupe showed up looking quite stock and still sporting a 200 cubic inch inline-six. Its not a rare car, but its definitely rare to see a car like this restored back-to-stock, and that makes it something pretty special these days.br / br / Signal Flare Red looks great on any Mustang (and is a great upgrade over the factory Code Z Sauterne Gold in our opinion), even the coupes, and it seems to fit the energetic little pony just fine. Were glad that the owner decided to keep it in an all-factory look because this red Mustang will stand out among all its modified and over-wrought siblings that never seem to get it right. This particular Mustang is not about flashy performance, but rather fun, economical transportation with a big dose of style to go with it. The finish is quite decent for a car at this price level, showing solid bodywork, good gaps, and a nice shine that could be taken up a notch or two with a professional buff job. The good news is, the flaws arent in the metal, and there are no signs of any issues underneath the paint, the flaws are composed of scratches and light chips from use. All-in-all, this little pony still presents nicely. No stripes, no add-ons, no fake badges, just a clean, honest Mustang coupe thats pretty much the way most folks ordered them back in the day. It has a 60s sensibility that youll find quite appealing, and with all the bright chrome accents, it looks like a much more expensive car. Bright chrome on the bumpers, stainless trim with a soft shine, and crystal clear red taillights look crisp and clean against the red paint.br / br / The white vinyl interior is basically this car was originally delivered (technically it was Code C8 Parchment w/Ivy Gold trim, although this is pretty close), and the no-nonsense combination is ideal for the red bodywork. The seat covers are a bit stained but otherwise in very solid, tear-free shape over the factory front split-bench (thank you for not putting a Pony interior in this one or swapping buckets, we love the rare originality!) and the burgundy carpets were replaced not too long ago and are in nice condition. There are also correct door panels with bright accent trim, a standard 3-spoke steering wheel wrapped in vinyl, and original gauges (all 1966 Mustangs got the killer 65 GT gauge cluster), all of which give it a pleasing and inviting look inside. The original dash pad was swapped in favor of a very nice burgundy piece that matches the carpets and steering wheel cover, and the original AM radio was swapped in favor of a retro-style AM/FM/Cassette unit that works great. And probably coolest of all, this is isnt just some boring automatic transmission that manages this classic, within easy reach of the drivers is a shifter for the 3-speed manual transmission below. With room for a few overnight bags, the trunk is neatly finished with a correct plaid mat and spare tire with matching cover.br / br / The 200 cubic inch inline-six under the hood shouldnt be dismissed, because its a peppy, torquey, and smooth powerplant that works quite well in the lightweight Mustang coupe. Never intended to be a racer, this engine is more comfortable cruising around town where the 3-speed manual transmission seems to always be in the right gear. The Ford Blue engine is correct, as is the factory air cleaner and valve cover, and although its not dressed for show underneath everything looks just like it supposed to, including the OEM smog canister a?" how cool is that?! It also has had lots of recent drivetrain and other miscellaneous work done so it runs right, and we do have several receipts to document the work. The car is very solid underneath with more signs of maintenance and proper care throughout the years, including a single exhaust system with a proper transverse muffler and a set of newer shocks. Stock steel wheels with factory hubcaps complete the Mustang look and carry 195/75/14 whitewall radials for just the right look.br / br / If you care about quality more than just raw power, this Mustang coupe deserves careful consideration. Even with six cylinders, Mustangs remain first-rate fun. Call today!br/br/
